Ministry: The Lost Gospels According To Al Jourgensen with Jon Wiederhorn

Well, finished reading this book a little while ago, and holy fuck!!! Al is one fucked up individual. Not cause he had a troubled childhood or something but he did a lot of drugs. I'm surprised he's not dead. This book takes you through all the albums and you get a pretty clear picture of where his mental state was when he wrote them. Would I recommend this... Yes! If you want to know some of the back-story of Ministry and the mental states Al was in when creating his albums then definitely check this out!

Mona Lisa Overdrive

Well, picked this up a week or 2 ago. And, what do I have to say; Holy Fuck! This is the third book in The Sprawl series by William Gibson and holy fuck! All the main characters are here; Molly, Finn, Bobby, Angie, maybe even Case. Basically, about Angie who has become a Sense/Net star and there's rumors abounding that she hears voices and stuff. But those that have read the previous books know the real story, She doesn't need a cyberdeck to connect to the net. And those voices are actually weird ghosts in the net called the 'loas', that guide and talk to her. I'm not gonna say what the outcome of this book is but it's really fuckin good! So, if you are into cyberpunk literature definitely check this out!

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex Episode 2 Manga

Just finished reading Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex Episode 2: Testation manga. This was written/drawn by Yu Kinutani. It was a quick read (1-2hrs). The story was good. It's basically about how a newly developed tank for some reason or another goes haywire and starts heading for the city and it's up to Major Kusinagi and the Section 9 team to stop it. Yep, good stuff. Can't get enough. If your into cyberpunk literature or manga or really anything cyberpunk this is definitely something to read!

Industrial Awareness Thursday - Comaduster

This weeks band is Comaduster. Comaduster is the solo project of Real Cardinal. He's from Edmonton and the project is currently signed to Tympanik. Comaduster's music is intelligent. It seems like every glitch, every drum part, every synth line has been labored over. Comaduster has been around for quite some time I can't quite remember how long but it's been at least 10 years. I've seen him play live a couple of times and they put on an excellent show! They are playing Terminus this year and if you haven't I would say definitely check them out!

Count Zero

Well, picked this up a while ago. Finished reading it and wow! If you haven't read this or any other William Gibson books you are really missing out! This book is the second part of a trilogy called: The Sprawl (The first being Neuromancer). This book is about an amateur hacker (Bobby) that gets himself into a shitload of trouble and then ends up saving the day in the end (with some "friends"). If your into cyberpunk this is considered essential reading as William Gibson is essentially the Father of cyberpunk literature. Check it! I wasn't disappointed!

Industrial Awareness Thursday - Tekhnotron

Well, it's Thursday again and there's all sorts of music and bands to check out! This week I would like to bring awareness to Tekhnotron. Tekhnotron is a Calgary, Canada based band. Originally, the band started out as a solo project for Slava Nartakhov back in 2007, then eventually grew to a 3 person project with Rissy Marentette and David Luecke. Tekhnotron has played many shows here in Calgary (including the Terminus Festival) and we have played with them a couple of times. There music is definitely different from a lot of other stuff out there and I do believe they are working on a full album. I would say definitely check them out!

Industrial Awareness Thursday - Psykkle

Well, I've decided to start a weekly blog post called: Industrial Awareness Thursday. These weekly posts are geared toward industrial music awareness. Shit that I've been listening to that may not be on everybody's radar, local stuff or stuff that hasn't had all that much exposure or that I think that people should check out. I kicked this off with the last post about our friend and keyboardist Closed Loop. This weeks indsutrial is a band called: Psykkle. These guys probably don't need an introduction but they are from Edmonton. They have played a few shows here in Calgary as well, and they've always put on a good show. The music is excellent! It's amazing what kind of talent comes out of Alberta! And Psykkle are definitely very talented! If you haven't checked them out yet then definitely do!

Ghost In The Shell (Original Manga)

A couple weeks ago I found and purchased the rare out-of-print Ghost In The Shell manga by Masamune Shirow. Being that I have been looking for this manga since around 2004, I was surprised reading it. It is quite different than the movie. The movie only touches upon more the first part and the last part of the book. The book however goes more into detail about Section 9 (how it was formed, and it's operations). Of coarse it centers around Major Motoko Kusanagi, her team and their beginnings... and to the end where Motoko "fuses" with an A.I..   Yep, this is cyberpunk. Being that this book is written and drawn by my favorite manga artist I would definitely say check this out!

33 1/3: Pretty Hate Machine

Well, picked up 33 1/3: Pretty Hate Machine by Daphne Carr. When I originally picked this book up I mistakenly thought this would give insight into the writing and production of Pretty Hate Machine by Nine Inch Nails. Instead it is a book about the world Nine Inch Nails made and what was the world that made Nine Inch Nails. It's a quick read (179 pages). It's basically fans telling their stories of how they got into NIN and how NIN shaped their lives. Lots of similar stories here. It is a good read, not what I was looking for but good anyway!

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex Manga

Just finished reading Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Episode 1 manga. This was written/drawn by Yu Kinutani. This is an expansion on the Ghost In The Shell universe. It was a very quick read (1-2hrs). The story was excellent. Basically about how a high-ranking government official is kidnapped and Section 9 is brought in to find the official and solve the case. Of coarse all the main characters are here; The Major, Bato, Aramaki, Togusa, even the Tachikomas. Very good! If your into cyberpunk this is an excellent book to get. I'm finding I can't get enough of this stuff!

Human-Error Processor

Well, as most of my friends know, I'm big into Japanese manga, especially of the cyberpunk genre. One of my favorite artist/writers is Masamune Shirow. I haven't actually read the original Ghost In The Shell yet but I did pick up: Ghost In The Shell - Human-Error Processor. This manga is the lost continuation of the Ghost In The Shell story. Obviously, it takes place after the original manga and the 'Major' (now called Chroma) makes a couple of appearances in this manga. The story is basically about the activity of Section 9 after The Puppeteer incident and peoples minds and bodies are being hacked to the point that dead bodies are being controlled. Anyway, if your into manga this is a great book to pick up and read!
